✅ Window Treatment Maintenance Tips

Proper care extends the life of your window treatments and keeps them looking their best. Below are simple maintenance tips for each type of product we offer:

Roller Shades

Use a dry microfiber cloth or the brush attachment on your vacuum to gently remove dust. For deeper cleaning, lightly dampen the cloth with water and blot gently. Avoid harsh cleaners or scrubbing, as they may damage the fabric or coating.

Solar Screen Shades

Dust regularly using a microfiber cloth or hand vacuum. For coastal areas with salt air (like Clearwater or St. Pete), gently wipe the screen with a damp cloth every few months to prevent buildup. Never use abrasive cleaners.

Vertical Blinds

Dust the vanes with a feather duster or vacuum with a brush attachment. Fabric vanes can be spot-cleaned with mild detergent and warm water. PVC or vinyl vanes may be wiped with a damp cloth. Always let vanes dry completely before rotating.

Faux Wood Blinds

Faux wood is moisture-resistant and great for Tampa Bay humidity. Wipe slats with a damp cloth or mild soapy water. Avoid soaking cords or headrails. Do not use wood polish, which can cause buildup on synthetic finishes.

Real Wood Blinds

Dust with a soft cloth or duster. Use wood-safe polish occasionally to maintain the finish—avoid water or damp cloths, which can warp natural wood. Keep away from high-humidity areas like bathrooms.

Plantation Shutters (Wood & Composite)

For composite shutters, use a damp cloth or mild soap and water. For wood shutters, stick to dry dusting or use wood-safe polish. Avoid excessive moisture or direct sun exposure through open windows for prolonged periods.

Aluminum Mini Blinds

Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. You can also remove the blinds and gently soak them in a bathtub with warm soapy water for a deeper clean. Be sure to dry completely before reinstalling.

Honeycomb Shades (Cellular Shades)

Vacuum using a low-suction setting and a brush attachment. Spot clean with a mild detergent and water. Do not saturate the material or compress the cells. Avoid spraying anything directly onto the shade.

Zebra Shades (Dual Shades)

Use a feather duster or dry cloth to remove dust. If needed, lightly blot stains with water and a soft cloth. Do not scrub, twist, or soak the fabric layers.

Sheer Shades

Handle gently and dust with a feather duster. Avoid using water or chemicals. These shades are delicate and should not be scrubbed or vacuumed with strong suction.

Drapery & Curtains

Most drapes can be vacuumed with a soft brush attachment. For deeper cleaning, follow fabric-specific instructions—some can be machine-washed, others may require professional dry cleaning. Avoid exposing them to moisture for long periods to prevent mold in Florida humidity.

Panel Tracks

Dust or vacuum panels regularly. Wipe with a damp cloth as needed. Check track hardware for smooth operation and lubricate occasionally with silicone spray if panels start to stick.

Motorized Shades

Dust regularly. Use a soft cloth for light cleaning. For rechargeable lithium-ion motors, recharge every 4–6 months depending on usage. Solar-powered and plug-in motor options require minimal maintenance. Keep remotes and sensors clean and dry, and avoid tampering with motor housing—contact us for service if needed.
